Aim of the Symposium

The international symposium is held as part of the Dutch Knowledge for Climate (KfC) Program, and specifically the group of researchers working on governance issues under that program.

The purpose of the meeting is twofold:
- To establish a network of researchers who are analyzing the efforts of public and private actors to prepare for climate change,
- To exchange insights on adaptation governance across the world and draw lessons in a coordinated way.

We feel that these purposes are highly relevant as climate change adaptation can in some ways still be classified as an emergent (policy) field which is in search for clear goals, instruments and methods. In addition, the scientific community studying the governance of adaptation is still in its formation and discussuing relevatively basic issues, including basic definitions, appropriate conceptual frameworks, and ways of evaluating climate adaptation efforts.
